Tennis elbow — lateral epicondylitis — causes pain on the outside of the elbow that can make gripping a coffee mug, typing, or lifting a toddler painful. Despite the name, most people who get it don't play tennis.
What Causes Tennis Elbow?
Repetitive gripping and wrist movements overload the tendons that attach to the outside of the elbow. Pickleball, tennis, gardening, carpentry, and long days at a mouse and keyboard are all common culprits.
Why It Lingers
Tendons have a limited blood supply, so they can be slow to heal. Many people rest, feel better, then flare up again as soon as they return to normal activity.
Non-Invasive Options
- Activity changes and grip adjustments
- Strengthening exercises for the forearm
- Counterforce bracing
- Shockwave therapy, including SoftWave, to stimulate the tissue's repair process
During your evaluation we'll look at your elbow, wrist, shoulder, and neck, since problems higher up can add to elbow strain.
